All children are expected to attend swimming lessons as part of the
National Curriculum. At Sharrow School we arrange swimming lessons for
children when they are in Year 4. One class goes for the first half of
the year and the other class goes for the second half of the year.
In order to meet the national curriculum requirements for swimming and water safety children must be able to:
• Swim on their front or back over a distance of at least 25 metres
• Use a range of strokes effectively over a distance of 10 metres (for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke)
• Perform safe self-rescue (Water Safety)
